Emergency Food Parcels

Food parcels given out in November - 8

Total given out in 2011 - 76 (Compared to 57 given out in the same period in 2010)

Our church is the collection and distribution centre of a scheme that every church in Ludlow supports.

Non-perishable food such as tins of beans, jars of pasta sauce, tins of tuna and packets of rice are collected and put together into standard food parcels, each parcel with enough food for at least 3 or 4 days.

The scheme has been running in its current form since 2005, and over that time local agencies such as South Shropshire Housing Association and the CAB have made numerous requests for parcels for people that they are supporting, people who can’t afford to put food on the table.

Often the question is asked, “Surely there isn’t much need for such a scheme in a town as nice as Ludlow?” That is not the case at all. Although Ludlow projects an image of a wonderful little market town, it suffers from the same social problems as many other places across the country. The requests for food parcels has increased year-on-year – in 2009 a total of 53 parcels were given, which equates to just about one-a-week. In 2010 that total jumped to 72, including 17 in one month.

We anticipate that in the current economic climate we will receive more and more requests for food parcels.

We believe that this scheme is an excellent way to practically demonstrate the love of God.
